Traditional Necklace Sizes

Traditionally, necklaces have come in six sizes, based on length. At Atelier-Beads, we create our necklaces in all six of those size ranges. But we've found that standard lengths just don't work for everyone. In order for you to look your best in a perfectly proportioned necklace, we need to take into account your size and measurements and customize the necklace for your perfect look. In this article, we'll take a look at those traditional sizes and see how they're adapted at Atelier-Beads We'll also give you instructions for measuring. Finally, we'll take a look at bracelets and pendants so you'll always be sure of finding your perfect fit.

The Collar

The traditional collar length is 13-14. It can look terrific with v-neck or dressy off-the-shoulder gowns. The collar fits closely just above the "v" at the base of the throat. Collars are often adjustable, and they often include two or three strands of beads.

To measure for your collar: Have someone help you measure not too tightly just above that "v" in your throat. If you feel as though you're choking, that's too tight.

Choker

The Choker

Traditionally sized at 14-16 long, the choker sits just inside the collar bones. They look beautiful with just about any style and can appear delicate, feminine, and demure. They can also encircle the neck with larger, stunning beads or beads with a single ethnic focal.

To measure for your choker: Use a ribbon or piece of string to measure from the nape of the neck and around the front just inside your two collarbones-and back to the nape.

Princess

Princess Length

Normally sized at 17 to 19, the princess is the most popular length for pearls. Wear it to work, for special occasions, or for casual wear. It will fill in the v neck of a shirt or blouse or lie perfectly on a round necked sweater. Choose this length also for gifts if you're uncertain as to size. It is intended to fit just below the collarbone.

To measure for your princess length necklace: Use a ribbon or piece of string to measure from the nape of your neck to that "V" that lies just at the top of your breastbone in the center-then back around to the nape. Have a friend help you for best results.

Opera

Opera Length

Falling anywhere between 24 and 30, opera length strands are traditionally the most luxurious. This length can be the most formal and the most versatile. In some cases, you can wrap the strand around your neck twice for a wonderfully opulent effect. This length is terrific for showing off ethnic and collectible beads. It's also a wonderful length for lots of heavy chains with interesting pendants.

To Measure for your opera length necklace: Measure from the nape of the neck to just at the fullest point of the bust-and back around, of course. Your necklace should be this length or longer.

Rope

Rope or Lariat

Just about anything goes with this longest length. They're traditionally over 36 to about 45 in length-or longer. They can be wrapped around a time or two, knotted, or even worn draped down the back. A variation on this length is the lariat which has no clasp but is simply one long rope to be draped and knotted as you choose.

There's really no right or wrong way to measure for this length. If you're tall or larger, drape your string around your neck so that the two ends hang down to a point below the bust or midway between bust and waist.

Watches and Bracelets

We set great store by our watches and bracelets at Atelier-Beads. Maybe it's because they're so much fun to make, we want them to be fun for you to wear as well. Why is it, then, that people have so much trouble measuring for them. Here's the big secret: A bracelet isn't a straight line. It's a doughnut. Because the beads and stones have a thickness of their own, a bracelet has an inside dimension and an outside dimension. Our most common comment is, "My wrist couldn't possibly be that large!" Our answer? Well, it isn't! If your bracelet we're a single piece of string, it might be the same length as your wrist measurement. If it sports stones and beads, it will be longer. Read on:

To Measure for your Cuff Watch or Bracelet: Measure around the wrist where the bone sticks out. The measurement should be snug, but not tight! We'll add a little extra for ease of movement. If you're ordering a woven beaded cuff, please allow us 2-3 weeks to customize your piece.

Pendants

Atelier-Beads offers three basic chain lengths for your pendant: 16, 18, and 20. Please select your desired length from the drop-down menu provided. There is a small extra charge for the 18 and 20 chain lengths in sterling and gold filled styles. If it's a chain I fabricate myself, there's generally no charge.

Earrings

Earrings are made with a variety of hooks and wires including sterling and gold filled, vintage brass, silver and gold plate, surgical steel, and non-allergenic niobium. The metal content will be clearly stated in the earring's description. If you require 14kt gold, please contact us. Contact us also if your style uses plated silver and you'd prefer sterling. If you have allergy problems, or if your ears always feel itchy, we recommend that you try niobium. It's a lightweight space-age metal that's as non-allergenic as platinum at a much, much lower price. Non-pierced screw-back or clip earrings are available for most styles in a coordinating metal tone. There's an additional charge for all earring "upgrades."

Thanks folks! I just promised a colleague we can note his savy moving company in Brantfords, http://www.goodolboysmoving.com during a site piece. If ever you're hunting to find a moving company around the outlying Ontario vicinity, they were outstanding.

At last, naturally I want to tell you the base concept to this charming text was graciously presented by Thelak with aeroseal solutions. They absolutely are a good duct sealing professionals. I really enjoy a good suggestion!
